Why do I get an error message when uploading a youtube video?

Tried formats, avi, wmv and mp4

Ok I used my Microsoft Webcam to record a video that I wanted to send to my brother. I cant send it through my email it says its too big. So how can I covert it or compress it to a smaller type of file, so I can actually send it?
